Croatian Translation Services for Documents

Translate manuals, catalogs, contracts and websites into Croatian, with your terminology and formatting intact.

Markets: Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Who needs Croatian translation

Croatia has about 3.9 million people, and it is a member of the European Union, the eurozone and the Schengen area. It is a gateway to the wider Adriatic region, and a large tourism market. Croatian is also one of the official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Croatian buyers expect documentation in Croatian. EU product rules generally expect instructions, labels and safety information to be available in the official language of the country where the product is sold. A manual in English, Serbian or Slovenian may not meet that expectation, and customers notice either way.

Typical documents

  • User manuals and installation guides, often with diagrams and numbered steps
  • Product catalogs and data sheets, where tables and part numbers must survive
  • Safety data sheets and compliance documents
  • Contracts, terms and conditions, and tenders
  • Packaging and labels, where space is tight
  • Websites and software strings

Most of these are laid out in Word, PowerPoint or spreadsheets (InDesign on Pro). Taia keeps the layout, so you get back a Croatian file that looks like the original instead of a block of text to reformat.

Where Croatian translation goes wrong

Treating Croatian as Serbian. The two languages are closely related, but Croatian has its own vocabulary and spelling. Some everyday words differ (a thousand is “tisuća” in Croatian and “hiljada” in Serbian), and so do the names of the months. Check that your supplier translates into Croatian, not into “Serbo-Croatian”.

Diacritics. Croatian uses č, ć, š, ž and đ, and it also has the letters dž, lj and nj. Fonts, PDFs and older systems sometimes drop or swap the marks, and a missing mark can change a word. Test the final file in the program your customers will use.

Seven cases and gender. Croatian nouns, adjectives and numerals change with seven cases and three genders. A fragment such as Delete {item} has no single correct translation, because the form depends on what replaces the variable. Product names also need declining, so record the approved forms in the glossary.

Address and out-of-date details. Business documents use the formal “Vi” (written with a capital in direct address to one person), and the register should be decided once and written in the style guide. Croatia adopted the euro on 1 January 2023, so price lists, contracts and forms that still mention the kuna need to be checked when a document is updated.

How Taia handles Croatian

Upload your file (Taia reads 65+ formats on Pro), choose Croatian, and AI translation returns the file in minutes with the formatting in place. Customer content is never used to train AI models.

Consistency comes from three tools that work together. A glossary fixes how your product terms are translated. A style guide sets tone and address. Translation memory stores approved segments so related documents match. Glossary, style guide and translation memory are on Pro and Enterprise. Translation memory does not make AI translation cheaper. It keeps wording consistent, and on professional per-word work, matches are discounted.

When a document needs a human, someone on your own team can review it in Translation Studio on Pro, or you can order professional translation from a native Croatian linguist.

Three ways to translate into Croatian

Pick one per document, or combine them. On Pro and Enterprise, the same glossary and translation memory sit behind all three, so your approved terms carry over whoever finishes the text.

AI translation

A formatted first draft in minutes, for internal documents or as the starting point for a reviewer. AI translation is part of a Taia subscription; see pricing for what each plan includes.

Your own team, in Translation Studio

If a colleague, a subsidiary or a distributor reads Croatian, invite them to your organization and assign them a task on the AI draft. They review it segment by segment in the Translation Editor, with translation memory matches, glossary terms and your style guide beside each sentence, then submit and deliver it. Translation Studio is on Pro and Enterprise.

Professional translation by Taia's linguists

When a contract, a safety sheet or a label has to be right and nobody on your team has the time or the language, order it from the same project. There are three levels:

Essential

from $0.07/word

AI translation post-edited by one professional linguist.

Enhanced

from $0.10/word

A translator and a reviser. This workflow follows ISO 17100.

Ultimate

from $0.14/word

Translation, Editing and Proofreading (TEP). This workflow follows ISO 17100.

Professional prices are list prices across languages. The exact price for Croatian and your file appears on the instant quote when you upload it.

Croatian translation turnaround

AI translation takes minutes, whatever the length of the file. When your own team reviews in Translation Studio, you can set a deadline on the task. For professional translation, the delivery date is shown on your instant quote before you order, so you know it before you commit.

Croatian translation: frequently asked questions

Can I use a Serbian translation for Croatian customers?

No. Croatian, Serbian and Bosnian are closely related and speakers understand each other, but they are standardized separately, with their own vocabulary and spelling. Croatian is written in the Latin alphabet only. A Serbian text sent to Croatian buyers looks careless, and in contracts or safety information it can cause real confusion. Order Croatian as its own target language.

How do I translate a document into Croatian?

Upload your file to Taia, choose Croatian as the target language, and the AI translation comes back in minutes with the original formatting kept. Taia reads 65+ file formats on Pro. To have it checked, assign the review to someone on your team in Translation Studio (Pro), or order professional translation from the same project without re-uploading.

Is AI translation good enough for Croatian?

For internal documents and first drafts, usually yes. Croatian is a smaller language with less training text than German or French, so for contracts, labels, safety information and anything customers rely on, order professional translation from a native linguist. If a colleague or your distributor in Croatia reads the language, they can check the AI draft in Translation Studio (Pro). All three work in the same project.

How do I keep Croatian product terminology consistent?

Add your approved terms to a Taia glossary and set up a style guide for tone and address. On Pro, the glossary keeps terms fixed and the style guide sets tone and address for the Advanced and Premium AI engines and for your linguists, and translation memory stores approved segments so later documents match earlier ones. Glossary, style guide and translation memory are on Pro and Enterprise.

Who translates the professional Croatian work?

Native Croatian linguists from Taia's network of more than 2,000 vetted linguists. The Enhanced and Ultimate workflows follow ISO 17100, with a second person reviewing the translator's work. You see the delivery date on the instant quote before you order, so you're not guessing about timing.
