Overview
Taia Translations Ltd (“Taia”) engages a limited number of third-party service providers (“sub-processors”) to help deliver our translation and localization services. This page lists those sub-processors and explains when, and on what basis, your content is shared with each of them.
We have designed our platform around a simple principle: your content is only shared with an external AI provider when you explicitly choose that provider for a specific task. It is not shared in the background, and it is never shared to train anyone’s models.
This page forms part of, and should be read alongside, our Privacy Policy and our Data Processing Agreement. Capitalised terms have the meaning given in those documents.
How content sharing works at Taia
A few principles apply across everything below:
- You choose the engine. When you request an AI translation, you select which translation engine or AI model performs it. Content for that job is shared only with the provider you selected, only for that job.
- No training, ever. Every AI provider we work with is contractually prohibited from using your content to train, fine-tune or improve any model made available to third parties.
- Professional (human) translation is private by default. When you order Professional Services, your content is handled by Taia and its linguists inside our secure editor. No external AI provider receives your content unless you select a machine translation post-editing (MTPE) option, in which case the AI engine you selected pre-translates the content before a human linguist edits it.
- Some optional features call AI directly. A small number of optional features (terminology extraction, style guide pre-population) work by sending the documents you provide to a large language model provider to analyse them. These are identified below so you can decide whether to use them.
Data sharing by service and feature
“User-selected” means the sharing happens only because you actively chose it. “Automatic” means it happens as part of the feature’s normal operation once you choose to use that feature.
| Service / feature | Providers that may receive content | Trigger | Content shared |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard AI translation | ModernMT | User-selected (you choose this engine) | Source text for the requested translation, and translation memory and glossary data associated with the account |
| Advanced AI translation | OpenAI, Anthropic, or OpenRouter (which routes to Google); Sovereign self-hosted models (coming soon) | User-selected (you choose the model per job) | Source text for the requested translation |
| Professional Services - human tiers (Essential, Enhanced, TE) | None (Taia and its linguists only) | n/a | No external AI provider receives content |
| Professional Services - MTPE option | The MT or AI engine selected by the Project Manager for pre-translation | Project Manager-selected (within the Professional Services workflow) | Source text for pre-translation, edited afterwards by a human linguist |
| Terminology extraction | OpenAI or Anthropic | Automatic when you use the feature | The documents you upload to the feature |
| Style guide pre-population | OpenAI or Anthropic | Automatic when you use the feature | The documents you upload to the feature |
| Hosting & infrastructure | Amazon Web Services (AWS Europe, Ireland) | Automatic (all services) | Encrypted storage and compute |
| Payment processing | Stripe | Automatic (on purchase) | Billing data only; no translation content |
Sub-processor list
Translation engines and AI models
ModernMT - Machine translation provider for the Standard AI tier, hosted within the European Economic Area. Used only when you select Standard AI translation. To deliver adaptive, context-aware machine translation, source text and translation memory and glossary data associated with the account may be shared with ModernMT. Under our contractual terms with ModernMT, your content is not used for model training.
OpenAI - Large language model provider for the Advanced AI tier, and for the optional terminology extraction and style guide pre-population features. Content is shared only when you select an OpenAI model for a translation, or when you use one of those two features. Contractually prohibited from using your content for model training.
Anthropic - Large language model provider for the Advanced AI tier, and for the optional terminology extraction and style guide pre-population features. Content is shared only when you select an Anthropic model for a translation, or when you use one of those two features. Contractually prohibited from using your content for model training.
OpenRouter - Model routing provider for the Advanced AI tier. When you select a model served via OpenRouter, OpenRouter routes your request to the underlying model provider (for example, Google for Gemma and Gemini models). OpenRouter acts as an intermediary and is bound by equivalent no-training and confidentiality obligations, as are the underlying providers it routes to.
Google - Underlying large language model provider for certain models offered via OpenRouter in the Advanced AI tier. Content is shared only when you select such a model. Contractually prohibited from using your content for model training.
Sovereign self-hosted models (coming soon) - For customers with the highest data residency and confidentiality requirements, Taia is introducing a Sovereign option in which selected open models run on Taia-controlled infrastructure, with no content shared with any external model provider. This option is on our roadmap; this page will be updated when it becomes available.
Infrastructure and operations
Amazon Web Services (AWS) - Sole cloud infrastructure provider for the Taia platform, used exclusively in the AWS Europe (Ireland) region, including compute (EC2) and database (RDS) services. All Customer Content is stored and processed within this AWS environment, and no production data leaves the AWS network.
Stripe - Processes subscription and Professional Services payments. Receives billing and transaction data only; does not receive any translation content.
Professional linguists
Taia works with a network of qualified professional linguists who deliver Professional Services. Linguists access content exclusively within Taia’s secure online editor and do not download it to their own systems unless expressly authorised. All linguists are bound by written confidentiality and data protection obligations.
Changes to this list
We will give at least 30 days’ notice before adding or replacing a sub-processor that performs a fundamentally new processing activity, by updating this page. Customers with a signed Data Processing Agreement may object to a new sub-processor on reasonable data protection grounds, as set out in that agreement.
